🩸 Iron Deficit (Ganzoni Formula)

Calculate the total iron deficit for replacement with the Ganzoni formula.

Iron Deficit (Ganzoni Formula)

Weight (kg)
Current haemoglobin (g/dL)
Target haemoglobin (g/dL)

When to use

Plan iron replacement (especially intravenous) in iron-deficiency anaemia.

How it works

Deficit (mg) = weight × (target − actual Hb) × 2.4 + iron stores (500 mg, or 15 mg/kg if < 35 kg).

Key points

  • Includes correction of anaemia plus replenishment of stores.
  • Dose IV iron per the chosen product's label.
  • Recheck iron studies after replacement.
