🫁 BOVA Score (Intermediate-risk PE)

Stratify 30-day risk in normotensive pulmonary embolism with the BOVA score.

BOVA Score (Intermediate-risk PE)

Systolic BP 90–100 mmHg
Elevated cardiac troponin
RV dysfunction (echo/CT)
Heart rate ≥ 110/min

When to use

Identify intermediate-risk PE patients who may deteriorate.

How it works

SBP 90–100 (2), troponin elevation (2), RV dysfunction (2), HR ≥ 110 (1). Stage I 0–2, II 3–4, III ≥ 5.

Key points

  • Applies only to haemodynamically stable PE.
  • Higher stages warrant closer monitoring.
  • Combine with sPESI and biomarkers.
