Is your asthma controlled? Take the ACT

The ACT (Asthma Control Test) is an internationally used asthma-control tool. Looking back over the past 4 weeks, answer 5 questions on activity limitation, breathlessness, night symptoms, rescue-inhaler use and self-rated control, each 1-5, total 5-25. Generally 20 or above means good control; below 20 suggests poor control and a need to see your doctor. Test regularly and watch the trend to catch worsening early. Common questions

What ACT score means good control?
Total 5-25: 20-24 well controlled, 25 completely controlled, below 20 suggests asthma is not well controlled and you should see your doctor to adjust treatment.
Can ACT replace seeing a doctor?
No. ACT is a self-rating tool to help you and your doctor quantify control; it does not replace an in-person visit, spirometry or treatment decisions. See your doctor promptly when scores are low.
How often should I test?
Before each follow-up visit or when symptoms change, so you can compare with last time and judge the trend. Follow your doctor's advice.
