Is your child's development falling behind? Check against the NHC warning signs by age

A parent self-check based on the China NHC developmental warning-signs screen. It covers 8 key age points across 0-3 years (3, 6, 8, 12, 18 months and 2, 2.5, 3 years), with 4 warning signs at each point. Choose your child's current age point and check each item — any single match (a positive) suggests development may need attention, and seeing a doctor promptly is advised. Early detection and early intervention matter greatly.

Common questions

Does one positive item definitely mean a problem?
Not necessarily. A positive warning sign only means further attention and assessment are warranted; it does not equal a diagnosis of developmental delay or any disease. It is designed to over-prompt rather than miss cases, so some children who screen positive turn out fine on assessment. But if any item is positive, the safe step is to see a doctor.
My child is older/younger than the listed ages — which do I pick?
Pick the age point closest to but not exceeding your child's current age. For a 10-month-old, use the 8-month group; for a 20-month-old, use the 18-month group. For a premature child, use corrected age and consult a doctor.
Can this replace a hospital check?
No. It is a home screening prompt to help you decide whether to seek care. A true developmental assessment is done by a child-health or developmental-behavioral pediatrician using professional scales.
A warning sign is positive — what should I do?
Don't panic, but don't delay. Take your child to a reputable child-health or developmental-behavioral pediatrics clinic and tell the doctor what you checked. Many developmental issues respond better the earlier they are addressed.
