Is your drinking pattern hazardous? Three questions to check

AUDIT-C is the short form of the WHO AUDIT — just 3 questions on how often you drink, how much per occasion, and how often you drink heavily, total 0-12. ≥4 for men, ≥3 for women suggests hazardous drinking worth addressing. Free; scored locally.

Over the past year (1 standard drink ≈ 10 g pure alcohol, about one can of beer or a small glass of wine)

Common questions

What is one standard drink?
About 10 g of pure alcohol — roughly one 330 ml can of beer, a small (50 ml) shot of spirits, or a small glass of wine. Converting this way is more accurate.
Why are the cut-offs different for men and women?
Because of differences in body weight and metabolism, women are more sensitive to alcohol, so the positive cut-off is lower (≥3). This is a screening prompt; confirmation needs a clinician.
