Common questions

What does Pediatric Dehydration Severity & Fluid Deficit do?

Use to convert an age-group- and severity-based dehydration percentage into a deficit volume, on top of maintenance and ongoing losses.

How is the result calculated?

Deficit ≈ dehydration% × weight (kg) × 10 mL. Infant/toddler: mild 5/moderate 10/severe 15%. Older child: mild 3/moderate 6/severe 9%.

Is this a substitute for clinical judgement?

No. All results are decision-support only, for licensed clinicians. They must be individualized to the whole patient and the latest guideline version.
